The Red Sox overpaid for Rusney Castillo. 7 years for 72.5? I read a lot of Rajai Davis comparisons. Brett Gardner with more power. When I hear that I think Johnny Damon. They need a minimum of Damon at his peak to get full value out of this contract. I was liking the 6 for 50 rumors I heard but those 22 mil could be better used elsewhere. But this opens up the (slim) chance of JBJ or Mookie going to Miami in a Stanton deal. Either way, I’m intrigued to see him in Boston. Congrats Boston you won the headline.

Nothing beats staying up late to watch the Red Sox play on the west coast.

Adrian Gonzalez with a 3-run home run. Why can’t we get players like that?

Friend-of-SportsPage, Bryan Kalbrosky wrote a great piece from the Dodgers perspective of the deal. It’s a well done article that you should all check out.

My colleague over at BoSox Injection writes that a blockbuster deal is being discussed with the Dodgers and Red Sox sending Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto  for the Dodgers for Zack Lee, Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa and Jerry Sands.

I proposed a deal involving Beckett for Lee around the deadline, so I’m obviously into this deal. It would take a lot for a trade like this to get done, but unless the Sox eat way too much money, this will be a great deal for them to unload their biggest contracts and get some good young arms.

The deal is official. Here are the pieces:

The Red Sox will send Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto to Los Angeles for James Loney and four prospects (Allen Webster, Ivan De Jesus, Jerry Sands, and Rubby De La Rosa). The Red Sox will pay just $12MM of the over $270MM owed.
