I’m glad that the NFL has finally updated their player photos.

Shawne Merriman is done in San Diego
The team placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday with a calf injury.  They did so with a “minor-injury designation”, which means its less than a six week injury.  When Merriman is healthy, the team has to release him.

Remember when the Chargers decided to not tender Sproles? Yeah, about that….
A week after the Chargers said they would not tender Sproles, they changed their mind. The team decided that they didn’t have any decent running backs, after releasing Tomlinson last week. The tender was worth $7.2897 mil. The Chargers would have seven days to match an offer if a team tries to sign him. If they match, San Diego would receive a first- and a third-round draft choice from the team that signs him. To make room for him they released DT Jamal Williams.

Chargers do not tender Sproles

In the same week the Chargers decided to release running back LaDainian Tomlinson, they also opted not to tender running back Darren Sproles, freeing him to leave the team in free agency without any compensation, said a source close to the situation.

Had the Chargers wanted to retain Sproles’ rights, they would have had to tender him with an offer of nearly $7.3 million for the coming season by March 4. But San Diego deemed that price too high, giving its running back the chance to test free agency. San Diego still would like to re-sign him, and it could, but it will face competition from other teams.

What’s going on in San Diego? Who’s going to be their starting RB next year? Is Hester ready? Do you think they will address it in the draft or sign a FA like Willie Parker?
